About The Vibrant VJ

Welcome to The Vibrant VJ blog! I’m Shauna Stuart: multimedia journalist and (trying to be a more) creative visual storyteller.

Journalism is my passion, especially broadcasting. I got my first broadcasting gig as an intern for NPR’s, “All Things Considered.” Since then, I’ve worked in both TV and radio.

I was trained in news, but branched out to social media, blogging, and creative video. From all of these interests, I created “The Vibrant VJ”.

To me, the most brilliant storytellers cover many platforms. In March 2010, I took a trip to Haiti where I shot a news style documentary about two Haitian students who revisited the island for the first time after the earthquake. When I was done editing the video, I was proud (and a little bit amazed) that I had an international reporting experience my final year of college. Unfortunately, a lot of people never saw the documentary, outside of a few students and one of my professors.

The mark of a great storyteller, whether you’re a journalist, filmmaker, or blogger is to be able to bring your story to as many people as possible. With social media like Facebook, Twitter, and Vimeo (just to name a few), reaching an audience has never been easier.  If people haven’t seen the video, they can read the blog about it. If they haven’t read the blog, they can see the tweet. The dialogue never stops. Bottom line: if you have a great story, but no one has seen it, then your story doesn’t exist.

That’s why I took such an interest in social media. In addition to producing creative media, having an extensive grasp of all types of social media allows me to reach all types of audiences, ensuring that at least someone besides me sees my work.

Since you’ve found my blog, why not check out my other sites as well!

Visit my Tumblr : www.thevibrantvj.tumblr.com. My Tumblr is more of a creative space for me.  I blog about news there (shocking), but I also delve into a little food, fashion, and fun.

If you want to know more about my journalism experience, see some work samples, or get my contact information, stop by my resume website www.shaunastuart.com. That  site is especially useful for news directors and producers who have only seven seconds of time to be impressed.

Hope you come back to visit!
